This special CPL event takes place on Saturday, September 27th.
The PineAssassin Classic in a one-night, no-limit Texas Hold'em tournament with a couple very unique twists. Though this format may be new to you, it still follows all the normal poker rules you know. Here's the details...
The Classic will play a type of Hold'em known as pineapple. Instead of beginning each hand with the regular two hole cards, all players are dealt three hole cards. Each player that pays to see the flop must choose and discard one of their three down cards after the flop hits the table (before betting begins that round). After the flop and discard, the rest of the hand is standard--each player possesses two hole cards and the best hand wins.
The Classic is an assassin tournament. This means each player is secretly tasked with trying to eliminate a specific opponent. A player who successfully takes the final chips of their target automatically earns 30% of the current tournament pot! Confused? Let us explain further: At the start of the event, each player will pay his/her buy-in as usual and receive chips & a starting seat. However, each player will also draw a private card from the Assassin Deck, which will contain the name of another player in the tournament. Players are forbidden to share their target-player with anyone else at any time during the event (it's top-secret!!). Everyone will play the tournament normally, but players will keep an eye on the opponent they are supposed to assassinate. If you can beat the odds and manage to eliminate your secret player, 30% of the current pot is immediately awarded to you!
But what if the player you are trying to assassinate is not at your table? Here's the final twist: Anytime a player wins a hand in a showdown with a straight or better, that player has the option to move to any table of their choice. This means players will always have a chance to be seated near the player they are trying to assassinate. A player that chooses to be moved will be relocated into the same seat position at his/her new table according to the button at both tables. Regular table consolidation will also take place during the event.
If someone else knocks out the player you're supposed to assassinate, then that's tough luck. Of course, placing in the tournament pays too! Please understand that if someone successfully assassinates their target-player, it immediately affects the tournament pot. For example, if forty players entered the event and purchased the add-on, the tournament pot would begin at $1000. If an assassination occurred, that lucky player would receive 30% ($300) right away. Now the pot contains $700 for the winners. But if another assassination occurs, that second lucky player would receive 30% ($210). Now the pot contains $490 for the winners. Statistically, it will be quite a challenge for a successful assassination to take place, so don't get too caught up in the numbers. *To aid players in recognizing the opponent you are supposed to assassinate, headshots of each registered player are attached at the bottom of this page. If you are unsure of who your target is by just their name, you will be able to privately match a face to the name via the pics below before the tournament begins.
Registration for The Classic is $20/player + $3 for food (not optional). That gets you $7000 worth of chips and dinner! There will be an optional add-on at the very beginning of the tourney only. For an additional $5, players will start the tournament with an extra $1500 in chips. Play will follow the blind schedule published below.
Payouts will be based on the number of players registered. The following criteria will be followed:

Only no-limit Texas Hold'em will be played. Standard rules for winning hands, betting order, etc. will be followed. CPL regulations will be in effect. All money collected from entries is paid out as winnings. No cut is taken for any reason. This tournament is Texas-legal.
Though players may choose to move to a new table anytime they win a hand in a showdown with a straight or better, normal CPL table consolidation will also be in effect. No table can ever hold two or more players than another table. When consolidating, the player to the right of the dealer button will be moved (as long as that player is not the table's current high or low stack).
STARTING STACKS: The five colored chips that will be used are gold, blue, green, lavender, and black. Each color is worth a denomination that only has value during a tournament. At the start of The Classic, every player will begin with $7000 worth of chips (4 lavenders, 4 greens, 7 blues, and 6 golds). If the add-on is purchased, 1 lavender chip and 1 green chip will also be given. As the blinds raise higher, players will be "chipped up" to remove lower denomination colors. Chips are always rounded up. Here are the values of the colors:
Gold= $50
Blue = $100
Green = $500
Lavender = $1000
Black = $5000
Black = $5000
FORMAT AND BLINDS: Player seats will be chosen at random. The starting position of the dealer button will begin at Position 3 at each table. Each player's assassination card will be drawn at random and kept a secret for the entirety of the event. Blinds will start at 50/100 and raise every nineteen minutes. Here is the blind schedule:

This event takes place at the VanSlam House and begins at 6pm sharp.
The official date is 9/27/14.
No
rakes/cuts are ever taken on the league's behalf. Players are never
charged an additional fee outside of the normal buy-in. Tournaments are
privately held. All players begin events with equal odds of winning.
Players are prohibited from making "deals" during a tournament. The tournament must be played until a single player has been deemed the winner.
Players must follow all etiquette, including never showing another
player their hand or performing any other actions viewed as cheating. No
more than forty players will be registered for The PineAssassin Classic.
No string betting. Cards speak for themselves. Substitutes are not
permitted at any time. Only CPL chips will be used during the
tournament. Rebuys, wilds, bounties, special points, and/or antes are
not a part of the event. All money submitted to The Classic is
non-refundable. Points
are not a part of the tournament (CPL point totals are not affected
whatsoever). Directors reserve the right to alter the colors and
denominations of chips used during the event. If the dealer mistakenly reveals a burn card after
the flop, all players shall be allowed to see the revealed card and the
hand will continue. Payouts occur as soon as the tournament ends. All players must contribute $3 toward the chef; food is provided. The
$5 add-on can only be purchased before the tournament begins. Only one
add-on per player. Players receive three cards at the start of each hand. As normal, players may choose to not pay to see a flop, in which case, they would fold all three cards. Any player that pays to see a flop must fold one of their three cards before betting begins that round. A player will only have one opponent they can assassinate in the event. To successfully assassinate their target, a player must eliminate their target (take the last of their remaining chips). If a player knocks out a player that is not their target, nothing happens. If a player loses the opportunity to assassinate their target because a different player knocked their target out, that player is no longer eligible for the 30% pot reward. However, a player should NEVER reveal the identity of their assassin card (this keeps the tourney interesting because no one knows how many assassins are still active). Players may not draw themselves for an assassin (directors have a method to prevent this occurrence). Anytime a player wins a hand in a showdown with a straight or better, that player may go to any table he/she chooses. He/she will be sat in the same location, meaning if they would have been three seats to the right of the dealer at their original table, they will be sat in that exact seat at their new table. The player they are switching with must move without option. A player does not have to use both hole when claiming the showdown win of straight or better. If two players are chopping a pot with a straight or better, no player may choose to move tables. If a player deliberately or excessively
violates CPL policy, that player may be expelled from the tournament
without refund.
All rule disputes will be resolved solely by a CPL Director (Robbie Cummings or Russell Pullen).
